Deck Jacket
DECK JACKET is a one-part aqueous acrylic/rubber coating that drys quickly to form a tough elastic surface, which eliminates cracks and splinters, deadens sound, is non-conductive, provides sure-footed safety for bare-foot walking, with a cushioning comfort.
The Deck Jacket formula has been in existence since the late 1970’s. The product has been used for years to cover not only wood decks, but also any properly prepared surface, especially those that require flexibility, and non-slip surfaces.
The Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) in association with the US Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board requires that walking surfaces comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which recommends that walking surfaces have a static coefficient of friction of 0.5. A research project sponsored by the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (Access Board) conducted tests with persons with disabilities and concluded that such persons needed a higher coefficient of friction. A static coefficient of friction of 0.6 is recommended for accessible routes and 0.8 for ramps.
A DECK JACKET coating exceeds these guidelines not only when the surface is dry, but especially important when surfaces are wet. Inclined ramps, stairways, and even flat surfaces, exposed to moisture, are especially hazardous, and DECK JACKET coating is a tremendous aid to help alleviate the potential for slipping.
Testing conducted by the SGS US Testing Company, gave test results of an average of 0.92 for dry conditions, and 0.85 for wet conditions for 2 sprayed coats of DECK JACKET.
While some surfaces, mainly concrete, may meet these guidelines without assistance, other substrates such as wood, composite wood decking, steel, metal, aluminum, fiberglass, etc., seldom meet the criteria unless specifically treated to do so. Any organization wishing to comply with these recommendations should seriously consider using DECK JACKET routinely as a safety aid for the general public on any properly prepared surface.
DECK JACKET is a 100% acrylic/rubber coating that has the lowest VOC/HAPS in the industry. Being such an environmentally friendly formula, there is little smell or toxicity, DECK JACKET has no flash point, is non-flammable, and has no ozone-depleting chemicals.
The color palette of DECK JACKET is endless. Besides our 10 standard colors, DECK JACKET can be top-coated with any acrylic/enamel paint, or tinted with universal pigments, so almost any pattern, design, or color is possible.
The dry weight of 2 sprayed coats of DECK JACKET at 45 mils is only 0.16 lbs. per square foot. For example, on a 500 square foot boat deck, backyard wood deck, ramp, etc., you only add 80 pounds to the substrate. Other coatings, and especially heavy wet carpeting, can be 6 times that weight.
